Why do I need a referral?
Most Ontario specialists require a referral letter from a physician or NP before they can book you. If you don't have a family doctor, clinic.ca provides the referral letter so you can get into the specialist's queue.
Is the specialist visit covered by OHIP?
Yes — if you have OHIP, the specialist visit itself is covered. You only pay the $49 clinic.ca referral fee. The specialist bills OHIP directly for your visit.
How fast do I get the referral?
An Ontario NP reviews your intake and issues the referral letter within 24 hours. The letter is faxed directly to the specialist's office and a copy is sent to you.
What if I don't see my specialist listed?
Our directory is growing. You can still request a general specialist referral — tell us which specialist you want to see and the NP will issue the referral letter to that clinic.
