FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
The $79 clinic.ca fee covers NP consult and Rx management. Diabetes medications may be covered by ODB (Ontario Drug Benefit) or your private drug plan.
What medications can clinic.ca prescribe for diabetes?
Metformin, SGLT2 inhibitors (empagliflozin, dapagliflozin), DPP-4 inhibitors, and GLP-1 agonists. Insulin initiation requires specialist referral. Your NP will prescribe what is most appropriate.
How often are monitoring labs done?
HbA1c every 3 months until at target, then every 6 months. Annual: lipids, kidney, urine ACR, and ophthalmology referral.
Can I use clinic.ca for ongoing diabetes care?
Yes. clinic.ca can manage stable, controlled Type 2 diabetes. Uncontrolled diabetes, Type 1, or insulin-dependent patients may require specialist referral.
clinic.ca is staffed by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class. Ontario NPs are legally authorized to order laboratory tests, prescribe medications including controlled substances, diagnose illnesses, and refer patients to specialists. If a specific recipient (employer, insurance plan, or specialist office) requires a physician signature on your document, contact us and we will re-issue through a consulting physician at no additional cost or refund your fee in full.
