FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
HbA1c, fasting glucose, and lipids are OHIP-covered when diabetes or pre-diabetes is clinically indicated. Fasting insulin and HOMA-IR may be self-pay.
What HbA1c indicates pre-diabetes?
Diabetes Canada defines pre-diabetes as HbA1c 6.0–6.4%. Diabetes is HbA1c ≥6.5% on two occasions. Your NP will interpret your specific result.
Do I need to fast?
Yes. Fasting 10–12 hours is required for accurate glucose, insulin, and lipid results.
What if my result shows pre-diabetes?
Pre-diabetes is reversible with lifestyle changes. Your NP will provide evidence-based dietary and exercise guidance and recommend follow-up testing timelines.
