FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
CBC, ferritin, B12, and folate are OHIP-covered with clinical indication. Iron studies are covered when anemia is suspected. Routine wellness panels are self-pay.
What is the difference between ferritin and serum iron?
Ferritin reflects stored iron (best marker of depletion), while serum iron reflects what's circulating. Both are needed for a complete picture.
Can I test while menstruating?
Results during menstruation may temporarily reflect blood loss. A draw 7–10 days post-period gives a more stable baseline, but is not strictly required.
How long to correct iron deficiency?
Typically 3–6 months of supplementation. Your NP will recommend a follow-up panel to confirm normalization.
