FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
TSH and free T4 are OHIP-covered for monitoring known thyroid conditions. Levothyroxine is covered by ODB and most drug plans. The $49 clinic.ca fee covers NP consult and prescription.
When should I draw blood?
Take your levothyroxine AFTER your blood draw for monitoring. Ideally in the morning before your dose. Wait 4–6 weeks after any dose change before retesting.
What TSH should I target on levothyroxine?
Most guidelines target TSH 1.0–2.5 mIU/L for optimal symptom control, though individual targets vary. Your NP will discuss your specific goal.
Can I switch to natural desiccated thyroid (NDT)?
Yes. NDT (Armour thyroid) can be prescribed via clinic.ca. Discuss your preference during intake and your NP will assess if it is appropriate.
clinic.ca is staffed by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class. Ontario NPs are legally authorized to order laboratory tests, prescribe medications including controlled substances, diagnose illnesses, and refer patients to specialists. If a specific recipient (employer, insurance plan, or specialist office) requires a physician signature on your document, contact us and we will re-issue through a consulting physician at no additional cost or refund your fee in full.
