FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
Vitamin D and B12 are OHIP-covered when clinically indicated — e.g. malabsorption, symptoms of deficiency, or risk factors. Routine wellness screening is self-pay.
What are optimal Vitamin D levels?
In Canada, Health Canada recommends 50–125 nmol/L, though many functional medicine MDs target 100–150 nmol/L for optimal health. Your NP will advise your specific target.
Can I take Vitamin D before the test?
Continue your usual supplements. The test reflects your current status, and your NP needs to see that baseline.
How long to normalize D levels?
With adequate supplementation (2000–5000 IU/day depending on level), most people normalize within 3–4 months. A follow-up test is recommended.
