FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
PSA testing is OHIP-covered for symptomatic men and when ordered by an NP. clinic.ca's $39 service fee covers the NP consult and result interpretation — the base lab cost is typically OHIP-covered with indication.
What is a normal PSA level?
There is no single normal value. PSA is interpreted in context of age, prostate size, and trends over time. Your NP will provide age-adjusted interpretation with your result.
Should I avoid ejaculation before testing?
Yes. Ejaculation within 48 hours can temporarily elevate PSA. Avoid for at least 48 hours before your draw for the most accurate result.
What if my PSA is elevated?
A single elevated result does not diagnose cancer. Your MD may recommend a repeat test, Free PSA ratio, or urology referral depending on the level and your risk factors.
clinic.ca is staffed by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class. Ontario NPs are legally authorized to order laboratory tests, prescribe medications including controlled substances, diagnose illnesses, and refer patients to specialists. If a specific recipient (employer, insurance plan, or specialist office) requires a physician signature on your document, contact us and we will re-issue through a consulting physician at no additional cost or refund your fee in full.
