FAQ
Is OHIP covered?
The $39 clinic.ca fee covers the NP consult. Antibiotics are covered by ODB for eligible patients, or your private drug plan.
Do I need a urine culture first?
No. For uncomplicated UTI in otherwise healthy adults, symptom-based treatment is clinically appropriate and recommended by Canadian guidelines. Your NP will order a culture if symptoms don't resolve.
What if I have a complicated UTI?
Fever, back or flank pain, chills, or nausea suggest kidney involvement (pyelonephritis). This requires in-person evaluation. Your NP will triage appropriately during intake.
How do I know if it's BV vs UTI?
UTI: burning with urination, urgency, frequency. BV: unusual vaginal discharge with odor, no burning. Your NP will distinguish based on your symptoms and advise accordingly.
clinic.ca is staffed by Nurse Practitioners (NPs) registered with the College of Nurses of Ontario in the Extended Class. Ontario NPs are legally authorized to order laboratory tests, prescribe medications including controlled substances, diagnose illnesses, and refer patients to specialists. If a specific recipient (employer, insurance plan, or specialist office) requires a physician signature on your document, contact us and we will re-issue through a consulting physician at no additional cost or refund your fee in full.
